长江商学院是由李嘉诚（海外）基金会捐资创办并获得国家正式批准，拥有独立法人资格的非赢利性教育机构，为国际管理教育协会（AACSB）和欧洲管理发展基金会（EFMD）成员，是国务院学位委员会批准的“工商管理硕士授予单位”（含EMBA和MBA），其目标是在十年内进入世界十强商学院之列。长江商学院成立以来，一直以“为中国企业培养一批具有世界水平的企业家”为己任，并致力于创建全球新一代商学院。
